An Irish DNA Mapping Study showed R-Z39589 as being distributed "exclusively" in the northern part of Ireland (the entire island). This haplogroup includes R-M222 (covered on a separate page), associated with the north. However, later subclades do show up in other parts of Ireland.

A FTDNA haplogroup project dedicated to their parent haplogroup R-Z39589 has not yet been discovered.

There is a Z251 lineage in the Collins project. Some project members have ancestry from Tennessee.

If they are willing to commit to further Y testing, project members under Z251 are encouraged to join the R-Z251 haplogroup project.

R-Z39589 clusters within the project's private Y results are numbered starting at Cluster 1880.
